Don’t Believe Anything You Read On A Blog…

Any blog, including mine.

Algorithms used on social media are designed to draw you in by only presenting you with articles that you agree with. That includes conspiracy theories as well as real science. But if you show you agree with a particular point of view, the algorithm will not point you to anything that you are not likely to want to see. So you don’t get anything in your feed that is likely to disprove stuff you believe in. Personally, I would rather the algorithm selected the strongest counter arguments and evidence against my own pet beliefs and bees in my bonnet. Bring it on. It may be painful to discover that I’ve been wrong all my life, but I’m a masochist where the truth is concerned.
